Hi, I'm Kate.
I have a knack for spotting strengths and skills in others, often before they see them in themselves.
If you're adjusting to a new place, a new role, or a new chapter of life, you know it's about more than just “being resilient.” Change asks a lot of us.

In my eight years as a mental health counselor, I’ve seen how disorienting big transitions can be, and how powerful they become when people have the tools and support they need to grow through them. I've supported college students in a campus counseling center and worked with kids, teens, and adults in community mental health and private practice settings.

I’m no stranger to change. I’ve lived in a lot of places, from China to South Africa, Australia to Spain. I’ve been a transplant in Illinois and Wisconsin, and re-integrated in my home state of Michigan. I’ve navigated career changes, marriage and divorce, and the complexities of a life that doesn’t always follow the expected path.
What I’ve learned, both personally and professionally, is that performing adaptation isn't sustainable. Honesty, specific skills, and trustworthy support are required to navigate transitions well.

I love what I do: helping resilient people build meaning and agency in the adventure of change.

What it's like to work with me
At the heart of Oceana Adventures, I want to offer steadiness in the shaking: a place where you can find your footing, stay connected with who you are, and navigate change with confidence, even when everything around you is new or different from how it used to be.
In our work together, I want my clients to:
-
feel encouraged and capable, not overwhelmed and stuck
-
be equipped with helpful skills and strategies, not just inspired
-
have a grounding space to process their experiences without feeling judged or rushed
-
make decisions with intention and wisdom rather than reacting impulsively or drifting passively
My Core Values
Humility
Humility asks curious questions and is open to unexpected answers. With an honest, balanced assessment of our strengths and limitations, we discover what we need to take action with confidence and joy.
Courage
Courage is doing meaningful things that scare us, with wisdom and intention. When we have the courage to live by who we are and what we value, we persist through change with integrity.
Heart
Heart is genuine, cares deeply, and makes decisions based in love. It is present, kind, and truthful. I'll hold space for you to sort through the challenges you're experiencing without trying to rush or fix you.
